Yeah, I was at Kmart bright and early Saturday morning to attend the HotWheels Collector Event. I used to attend these just about everytime they had them but this was the first one I had been to in almost 4 years. I was third on the sign-up sheet. An older couple beat me there and told me they drove from Baton Rouge to attend the event. They were avid collectors and had been for quite some time.
I’m still not 100% back as far as collecting Hotwheels again and was really only interested in Treasure Hunts and the 3 cars that had special paint exclusive to the Kmart Collector Event (Pictured to the left). There were also 3 cars that were “First-to-Market”. I did pick a few cars that I thought were pretty cool. You can go here to see a pic of all cars and the ’57 Nomad Promotion.
There was only three of us that signed up for the event and there were 8 cases with two different assortments to go through. Well the couple took 4 and I took 4 cases. My take from the event was 3 regular Treasure Hunts and 2 of each of the Kmart Exclusives with the exception of the ’69 Camaro. I passed on the ’69 Camaro because it was just BUTT UGLY and was one of the “First-to-Market” cars. I told myself if I got back into collecting I was going to only collect what I liked and not fall back into trying to collect every car that came out. I was a bit disappointed that there were no 2009 First Editions. There were some 2008 cars with the new 2009 card graphics but NO First Editions.
This collector event did not have a give away as they had one year when I won a complete 2003 one hundred and some odd number car set complete with all 12 Treasure Hunts and limited Series cars. That was way Cool! The only thing they had was a promotion that required you to buy 20 cars so you could send them another $3.00 to get an Exclusive 40th Anniversary ’57 Chevy Nomad by mail. I think I will pass. A few years ago I would have been all over that, but now….eh! Who cares!
