Waltrip is born

darrell_waltrip1On this day, NASCAR racer Darrell Waltrip was born in Owensboro, Kentucky. In 1986, Waltrip became the first stock-car driver to earn $7 million. Having gotten his start in the business racing go-carts at the tender age of 12, the 52-year-old Waltrip did not retire from the NASCAR circuit until 2000. Waltrip was Winston Cup champion three times and won 84 races in his career.
