This month’s contest was the closest one yet.  There were 2 correct answers submitted within one minute of each other.  Though Frog, a former winner, had the most detailed answer it was Marc that delivered the correct answer of “Corellian Corvette” first.

Congrats to Marc! He will get his choice of one item from the Prize Closet.

Thanks to all of you that participated and stay tuned for the next M3 Monthly Contest.

Kmart HotWheels Collector Event…

Filed under: Diecast, Uncategorized — Tags: — blasterhappy @ 7:20 am

Yeah, I was at Kmart bright and early Saturday morning to attend the HotWheels Collector Event.  I used to attend these just about everytime they had them but this was the first one I had been to in almost 4 years.  I was third on the sign-up sheet.  An older couple beat me there and told me they drove from Baton Rouge to attend the event.  They were avid collectors and had been for quite some time.

I’m still not 100% back as far as collecting Hotwheels again and was really only interested in Treasure Hunts and the 3 cars that had special paint exclusive to the Kmart Collector Event (Pictured to the left).  There were also 3 cars that were “First-to-Market”.  I did pick a few cars that I thought were pretty cool.  You can go here to see a pic of all cars and the ’57 Nomad Promotion.

There was only three of us that signed up for the event and there were 8 cases with two different assortments  to go through.  Well the couple took 4 and I took 4 cases.  My take from the event was 3 regular Treasure Hunts and 2 of each of the Kmart Exclusives with the exception of the ’69 Camaro.  I passed on the ’69 Camaro because it was just BUTT UGLY and was one of the “First-to-Market” cars.  I told myself if I got back into collecting I was going to only collect what I liked and not fall back into trying to collect every car that came out.  I was a bit disappointed that there were no 2009 First Editions.  There were some 2008 cars with the new 2009 card graphics but NO First Editions.

This collector event did not have a give away as they had one year when I won a complete 2003 one hundred and some odd number car set complete with all 12 Treasure Hunts and limited Series cars.  That was way Cool!  The only thing they had was a promotion that required you to buy 20 cars so you could send them another $3.00 to get an Exclusive 40th Anniversary ’57 Chevy Nomad by mail.  I think I will pass.  A few years ago I would have been all over that, but now….eh!  Who cares!

Filed under: Uncategorized — blasterhappy @ 7:10 am

Everything is coming together for the Open Car Show to benefit the Vidalia Lady Vikings Fastpitch Softball team on November 15th.  A SPECIAL THANKS to Delta Bank in Vidalia for sponsoring the event T-Shirts for the girls and once the design is finalized the T-Shirts will be available for Pre-Sale here on M3.  Also thanks go out to all the businesses that have donated merchandise and money to help support the girls with their first show.  These businesses will be listed here on Miss-Lou Motor Mafia.  I will be making a page here on the site just for the show and it will contain the list of events and sponsors.  Check back for updates!

Here we go AGAIN! Preparing for Gustav.

There is no doubt that everyone in the Southeast are watching the Weather Channel like an Olympic swim meet with Phelps.  Gustav is getting uglier by the minute and everyone is preparing for the worst.  Living in east-central Louisiana I feel like I’m in no great danger but there is always the threat of flooding and tornados that seems to accompany these hurricanes.  The Governor has already called for the closing of schools for Tuesday and Wednesday and all available school buses are being employed to help evacuate people from the Gulf Coast.

New Orleans has wasted no time is telling people to get out and get out now.  New Orleans Mayor Nagen in a recent news conference has already sent a threatening message to potential looters that anyone caught looting will be sent directly to Angola Prison and put in with general population.  There will also be a dusk till dawn curfew put into effect that will later be upgraded to a 24 hour curfew when the storm hits landfall with a zero tolerance.

Here is a pic of a couple of classic cars trying to make their way through flooded streets in Havana.

Gustav hit Cuba as a Category 4 Hurricane and is expected to increase to a Category 5 once it passes over Cuba into open water.  The “experts” are saying that the hurricane should decrease intensity to a Category 2 by the time it hits the Gulf Coast.

I wish everyone the best of luck and hope this will not be another Katrina.

Good Luck and God Bless from

Automobile Air Conditioning – Fact or Crap!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — blasterhappy @ 6:00 am

The Goldberg brothers – Norman, Hiram and Maxwell – invented and developed the first automobile air conditioner.    On 17 July 1946, the temperature in Detroit was 97 degrees.  The brothers walked into old man Henry Ford’s office and sweet-talked his secretary into telling him they were there with the most exciting innovation in the auto industry since the electric starter.  Henry was curious and invited them into his office.  They refused and, instead, asked him to come to their car in the parking lot.  They then persuaded him to get into the car, which was about 130 degrees, turned on the air condition and cooled the car off immediately.

The old man got very excited and invited them back to the office, where he offered them $3 million for the patent.  They refused saying they would settle for $2 million but wanted the recognition of having a label which read, “The Goldberg Air Condition” on the dashboard of each car in which it was installed.

Old Ford was more than just a bit anti-Semitic, and there was no way he was going to put their name on a couple million Ford autos.  They haggled back and forth for two hours and finally agreed on $4 million and that just their first names would be shown.  So, even today, all Ford auto air conditioners show on the controls the names, “Norm, Hi, and Max.”
