Here we go AGAIN! Preparing for Gustav.

There is no doubt that everyone in the Southeast are watching the Weather Channel like an Olympic swim meet with Phelps.  Gustav is getting uglier by the minute and everyone is preparing for the worst.  Living in east-central Louisiana I feel like I’m in no great danger but there is always the threat of flooding and tornados that seems to accompany these hurricanes.  The Governor has already called for the closing of schools for Tuesday and Wednesday and all available school buses are being employed to help evacuate people from the Gulf Coast.

New Orleans has wasted no time is telling people to get out and get out now.  New Orleans Mayor Nagen in a recent news conference has already sent a threatening message to potential looters that anyone caught looting will be sent directly to Angola Prison and put in with general population.  There will also be a dusk till dawn curfew put into effect that will later be upgraded to a 24 hour curfew when the storm hits landfall with a zero tolerance.

Here is a pic of a couple of classic cars trying to make their way through flooded streets in Havana.

Gustav hit Cuba as a Category 4 Hurricane and is expected to increase to a Category 5 once it passes over Cuba into open water.  The “experts” are saying that the hurricane should decrease intensity to a Category 2 by the time it hits the Gulf Coast.

I wish everyone the best of luck and hope this will not be another Katrina.

Good Luck and God Bless from

Farrah Fawcett’s Foxy Vette

Most of the time I’m amazed at George Barris’ creations but others I just have to say “What the hell was he thinking?”.  I know most of Barris’ Celebrity Cars were created by wants and ideas of the celebrity like Farrah Fawcett’s 1970 Custom Corvette aka “Farrah’s Foxy Vette”.  This thing screams 70s from the Metal Flake green paint, side pipes and turbo fan mags.  Let’s not forget the interior with enough fur to throw a PETA member into a fit of rage.  The amenities are there too like the  black and white TV, a mobile Rotary Phone and a CB Radio.  Now we are talkin’!

The car was up on eBay in 2001 but I don’t know if it sold or where it currently is now.  Here is the eBay auction description:

Yellow Cab Company is born

Walden W. Shaw and John D. Hertz formed the Walden W. Shaw Livery Company, which later became the Yellow Cab Company. In 1907, the Shaw Livery Company purchased a number of small taxicabs equipped with meters. The first yellow cab (the Model J) hit the streets in 1915, and its distinctive color became the company’s trademark. The company was also the first to use automatic windshield wipers, ultrahigh frequency two-way radios, and passenger seat belts.

November Car Show…

Filed under: Car Shows — Tags: — blasterhappy @ 4:24 am

Looks as if M3 may be joining forces with local law enforcement to help the Vidalia Lady Vikings High School Fastpitch Softball team in Vidalia, LA. raise funds for their upcoming season.  These girls stuggle to raise funds to cover expenses such as travel cost for away games, umpire fees, field maintance as well as other expenses that arise during the season.  The school does very little in support of the Fastpitch Softball program and it usually falls on the players and parents to step up and make this program a success.

Plans are to have a show sometime in mid November and it will be a Participant Judged show.  Awards will consist of a Top 25, Best of Show, Mayor’s Pick, Police Chief’s Pick, Fire Chief’s Pick and Sheriff’s Pick.  The particpants will PICK 5 ONLY and a Best Of Show.  I have found this levels the playing field and stops the “Ada Boy” votes.

There will be no Pre-Registration.  Registration will be $20 day of the show.

I will post more details when everything is nailed down.  These girls are really excited and I would hope everyone that reads this can help them make their first show a success.

Silly Season…Some Official News!

Filed under: NASCAR — Tags: — blasterhappy @ 7:51 am

Well Silly Season is finally starting to settle down and here is what we know…

Richard Childress will be announcing today at Bristol Motor Speedway that Casey Mears will be Richard Childress Racing’s 4th driver for the 2009 season.  Mears will pilot the number 07 sponsored Jack Daniels currently driven by Clint Bowyer and Bowyer will move to the number 33 sponsored by General Mills.  The points for the 07 car will transfer with Bowyer if approved by NASCAR.

It has also been announced that Scott Wimmer is out of the number 29 car sponsored by Holiday Inn at the end of the 2008 season in the Nationwide Series.  There has been no speculation on a replacement driver as Wimmer shared this seat with Cup driver Jeff Burton.

The Hendrick Motorsports number 5 that will be vacated by Casey Mears at the end of the 2008 season will be piloted by veteran driver Mark Martin.  Martin will drive a full schedule in the number 5 in attempt to capture his first championship.

Ryan Newman will be the second driver for Stewart-Haas Racing and will pilot the number 39 car.  Initially Newman was supposed to be the number 4 but was later changed to 39 as this was one of Newman’s numbers early in his career.  The number 4 will remain with Morgan-McClure Racing where it has an extensive history.

Penske Racing has yet to name the driver for the number 12 vacated by Ryan Newman at the end of the 2008 season.  Rumor has it that David Streme is the front runner for the seat.

More to come as it’s announced!

This was said to be the best selling Pin-up Poster of all time. I didn’t have the poster but I do remember having a T-Shirt with this picture of Farrah on it. Man she was HOT back then! Look for an upcoming article about one of Farrah’s cars by George Barris.
Work has been crazy so posts may be hit and miss this week. I will catch everyone up this weekend.

Finally… Toyota and JGR found Cheating!

After the Nationwide Series race on Saturday in Michigan two Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota cars, the 20 and 18 cars piloted by Tony Stewart and Joey Logano failed post race dyno tests.  A magnet was found on the firewall that was limiting the throw of the gas pedal thus hiding the true horsepower that the Toyota Cars were capable of.  The magnet was of no mechanical advantage during the race but was an attempt to decieve officials during post race inspection.  The JGR Toyotas have been dominate in both series since the start of the season and the other makes have suspected a mechanical advantage.  This will definitely put a spotlight on them now.  NASCAR has seemed to be in denial when it comes to the Toyotas.  Maybe they will pay attention now.  I hope they get slammed with fines, points and wins taken away.  Though not likely I could only hope!
