There is no doubt that everyone in the Southeast are watching the Weather Channel like an Olympic swim meet with Phelps. Gustav is getting uglier by the minute and everyone is preparing for the worst. Living in east-central Louisiana I feel like I’m in no great danger but there is always the threat of flooding and tornados that seems to accompany these hurricanes. The Governor has already called for the closing of schools for Tuesday and Wednesday and all available school buses are being employed to help evacuate people from the Gulf Coast.
New Orleans has wasted no time is telling people to get out and get out now. New Orleans Mayor Nagen in a recent news conference has already sent a threatening message to potential looters that anyone caught looting will be sent directly to Angola Prison and put in with general population. There will also be a dusk till dawn curfew put into effect that will later be upgraded to a 24 hour curfew when the storm hits landfall with a zero tolerance.
Here is a pic of a couple of classic cars trying to make their way through flooded streets in Havana.
Gustav hit Cuba as a Category 4 Hurricane and is expected to increase to a Category 5 once it passes over Cuba into open water. The “experts” are saying that the hurricane should decrease intensity to a Category 2 by the time it hits the Gulf Coast.
I wish everyone the best of luck and hope this will not be another Katrina.
Good Luck and God Bless from
